An extraordinary amount of rain Monday evening has caused flash flooding, stranding motorists and closing roads, especially in Chicopee and Springfield. In Springfield, Roosevelt Avenue and Page Boulevard were closed at about 7 p.m. because of severe flooding, and all fire department companies were responding to calls of flooding across the city, fire Capt. Drew Piemonte said. In Chicopee, there were reports of flooding throughout the city, said police Public Information Officer Travis Odiorne. He and several others posted photos of knee-deep water in streets in the Chicopee Falls neighborhood, warning people not to try to drive through flooded streets.
