There was plenty of confusion late Tuesday night when the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency sent out a 'geo' alert about a water boil order to thousands of residents' cellphones throughout Western Massachusetts. But only water customers within the city limits of Springfield and the southwest portion of Ludlow were affected by the boil order, which was prompted by a water main rupture in Springfield. Despite public water systems in Westfield and Southwick being unaffected, many residents of the area received the notification and called local water departments wanting more information.
